This section is for authors wishing to learn more about using Mystic Dragon Publishing as their publisher. This section will give you an idea what is involved in getting published. Depending on the person asking the questions, some of these things will be obvious and some of these things will not be so obvious.
Your first question is so obvious that I thought I would start with it. How much is it going to cost me? Well, that depends on a lot of factors, but we will try to give you a rough idea upfront. This is going to vary depending on the type of book you are planning to publish. You have to take a number of things into consideration. We do not have 'packages". We have a total cost, based on your particular book. Below are a list of what is involved in producing a quality book, and a rough idea what those things cost. How much your particular book would run will depend on those factors, as well as a few others.
Copy Edit: Many people think that copy editing is simply checking for spelling and punctuation. It is much more involved than that. This is a large part of the cost of getting your book published. Copy editing will run an average of about $2-3 per page. The actual cost will depend on how much work the copy editor requires. Also, if you are still friends with your High School English teacher, she just might do it for a discounted price.
Cover Art:The cover is the first thing a potential reader sees. The potential reader sees the cover before he/she notices the title. There are cheaper ways to obtain a cover. You can go through a graphics designer who simply takes photos or images and manipulates them into a book cover. There are also artists who design the whole cover from scratch. A graphics designer can cost as little as $50-100. An artist doing cover art can charge $100-450. Or if the author is also artistic, they can do their own cover for no cost.
